A Note Before We Begin
“Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.” — Genesis 2:24
With lives surrendered to Christ, we believe and live by His word. We are far from perfect, but He is “faithful and just to forgive” (1 John 1:9)
Is a Beach Microwedding Worth It?
Are you wondering whether a microwedding is worth it? Maybe you’ve dreamed of a beautiful wedding but don’t want the stress, expense, or pressure that often comes with planning one. We found ourselves asking many of the same questions. In the end, we chose a simple Christian beach microwedding that allowed us to focus on what mattered most: honoring God and entering into the covenant of marriage. In this post I’ll share why we chose a microwedding, how we planned it, what it cost, and why we wouldn’t change much.

Our Microwedding Story
Before getting married, I did not give much thought to what our wedding might look like. The reality of being married to my husband was a gift in and of itself. But, as time went on, I realized it was time to plan a little something to celebrate this exciting union. My hope with this post is to not only share a little about this special day but to also encourage you that the big day doesn’t have to be a stressful one.
What Is a Microwedding?
💍 Usually fewer than 50 guests
🤍 Focuses on intimacy rather than extravagance
🌊 Can be held almost anywhere
💰 Often costs significantly less than a traditional wedding
✨ Allows couples to prioritize what matters most
Why We Chose a Microwedding
After our engagement, we thought we were ready to get married right away. To make the best decision though, we had to define our goals. Some of them included:
✔ Glorify God
✔ Enter into covenant before Him
✔ Celebrate with family
✔ Keep things simple
✔ Focus on marriage rather than the wedding
“So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate” (Matthew 19:6)
- Ecclesiastes 4:9-12
- “Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up! Again, if two lie together, they keep warm, but how can one keep warm alone? And though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him—a threefold cord is not quickly broken.”
How We Planned Our Microwedding
Honestly, we didn’t plan too much. After defining our goals we only had a few more questions to ask.
- Who would be there?
- What to wear?
- Where would it be?
Things to Consider Before Planning a Microwedding
As the date approached four months later, we had a few more things to consider:
These questions are helpful to have beforehand, and the answers can be oh so simple. We often reflect on this day with such gratitude for the peace of the Lord, the support of our families, and the opportunity to exalt the marriage over the day. We were (and still are) so excited to be one. The day was precious. Marriage is even better.
The Challenges of a Microwedding
The Lord has blessed us with so many people who have impacted and influenced our lives in countless ways. Many of these people live in different states and even different countries. So, considering the fact that not all of your people can be there is definitely hard at first. But, take heart, and remember that this day is simply the start of the union. The celebration, rewards, and greatest joys are still to come.
Ways to Include Friends and Family In a Microwedding
- Worship + prayer night
One thing we were able to do that allowed us to celebrate with our people was to have a worship and prayer night with our closest friends. Again, this was very simple but so memorable and had an eternal impact on us.
- Let The Celebration Continue
Celebrating with our family and friends as we saw them after our marriage was so much fun and still so special! We even had the opportunity to dress-up two more times with family to take pictures and celebrate. What a gift this was.

Our Beach Microwedding Timeline
Maybe this practical breakdown of the big day will be helpful for you. We were blessed to get an Airbnb right by the beach which made things super simple. The wedding happened right outside, and dinner and dances were right inside!
| Time | Activity |
| 9:00 | Breakfast |
| 10:00 | Beach walk |
| 11:00 | Write private vows |
| 12:00 | Decorate |
| 1:00 | Get ready |
| 4:00 | Photos |
| 4:30 | Private prayer together |
| 5:00 | Ceremony – Groom arrives – Family sits – Walk down the isle – Sermon, vows, rings – Prayer |
| 6:00 | Family photos |
| 7:00 | Dinner & Dancing |
Why a Microwedding Blessed Our Marriage
When considering the big day, my encouragement to you is to remember your why. Remember why the Lord designed this beautiful union and why He brought you together. It is so easy to get caught up in the details and make everything “perfect,” but perhaps the biggest work should be elsewhere.

Premarital Counseling Matters More Than Wedding Planning
What if we stewarded our time so that instead of building a dream day, we built the foundation for a strong God-honoring marriage. While we could have certainly done this better, I commend my husband for his willingness to place our focus not on one day alone but on a lifetime together. Here are a few practical ways to prepare for a God-honoring marriage:
- Prayer individually and together
- Solidifying your understanding of what marriage means to God
- Having a list of topics to discuss. Here is a resource I just found.
- Identifying expectations
- Wise counsel (big one!)
Having a smaller and simpler wedding allowed us to build relationships with people and families we admire and look up to. Inviting these precious people into our lives and marriage was not only a blessing in preparation for our union, but it continues to reap so much fruit. We continue to seek their wise counsel, ask questions, and enjoy their fellowship. In many of these conversations before marriage (and even now), we were able to discuss things we hadn’t thought about before and be more intentional about how we live our lives and build our family.

How Much Does a Microwedding Cost?
You can make this as expensive or as affordable as possible. It totally depends on your situation. We were able to pull it off for around $2,800. This number includes our outfits, seating, photographer, decorations and food (not including our Airbnb).
The majority of this price came from our food (a chef was so kind to come to the house and cook for us). I would have been content with a simple pizza or something on the grill, but this made it more special for my husband and the rest of our family… something to be grateful for but definitely not needed.
Is a Microwedding Worth It?
Marriage is a gift.
Weddings are a joy.
God is good.
Simple can be beautiful.
Keep Christ at the center, and never lose sight of the covenant that begins long after the wedding day has ended.
Let this be an encouragement to you—simple is sweet and truly so special. We would not have done it any other way. While this is not the answer for everyone. Big weddings are beautiful and so memorable. But, bigger doesn’t always mean better. I would like to encourage those of you considering a microwedding that it can be done and it can be just as special.

Final Microwedding Thoughts
Whether you choose a microwedding with ten guests or a celebration with hundreds, remember that the wedding is only the beginning. The true joy is found in the covenant you make before God and the lifelong marriage that follows. If a simple wedding allows you to focus more fully on Christ, your future spouse, and the foundation of your marriage, don’t be afraid to embrace it. Simple can be beautiful, meaningful, and filled with lasting joy.
